Today, I Choose Strength
A few days ago, I texted my sister my thought for the day:
TODAY, I CHOOSE STRENGTH!

STRENGTH
/streNG(k)TH/
1. the quality or state of being physically
strong.
2. the capacity of an object or
substance to withstand great
pressure.
While this is not exactly what I had in mind when I chose strength for the day, (and don't get me wrong, this is a very fine specimen of strength) I was thinking more of character strengths such as: Compassion, Resilience, Honesty, Self-Confidence, Self-Control, Courage and Judgement. And the list goes on.
24 Character Strengths of Positive Psychology make up the six classes of virtues. The six classes of virtue are Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance, Transcendence and Wisdom.
Courage: Bravery, Honesty, Perseverance, and Zest.
Humanity: Kindness, Love, and Social Intelligence.
Justice: Fairness, Leadership, and Teamwork.
Temperance: Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence, Forgiveness, Humility, Prudence and Self-Regulation.
Transcendence: Gratitude, Hope, Humor, and Spirituality.
Wisdom: Creativity, Curiosity, Judgement, Love of Learning, and Perspective.
"Character strengths are influenced by family, community, societal, and other contextual factors. At least in theory, character strengths are malleable; they can be taught and acquired through practice." Gillham, et.al
Your character strengths are the qualities that come most naturally to you. Everyone has all twenty-four character strengths to varying degrees. You can use the strengths that you are strongest in to get ahead in life, or you can work on areas where you are not so strong. They are all positive and there are no wrong ways to use your character strengths.
Discover your character strengths by taking the VIA Survey at www.viacharacter.org. The survey is free, it takes about 15 minutes and your results are confidential.
